NYP Victim Intervention Program Advocates are individuals of at least 21 years of age, who all share a commitment to support survivors and advocate on their behalf through the Emergency Department experience.

If you're interested in becoming an Advocate, please take some time to fill out this survey- (please copy and paste link) https://nypisgme.iad1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bm6Ykd7x0oATILc

Advocates are specifically trained to be first responders to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and family violence. They provide information and emotional support to survivors as well as to survivors' support systems.

Advocates complete a 40-hour training in order to learn about the dynamics of abuse/violence, how to assist a survivor in safety planning, and how to provide crisis counseling. Training takes place virtually on the evenings of March 30th, April 6th and 13th, 2023 and all day on April 1st, 2nd, 15th and 16th, 2023.

Advocates sign up for on-call shifts to respond immediately to the Emergency Department/other areas of the hospital and meet survivors in a timely manner. Advocates must be able to respond to the hospital within 30 minutes. Transportation reimbursement is provided.

If you are interested in becoming a Victim Intervention Program Advocate or are interested in learning more about the program please don't hesitate to reach out to our Advocate Program Coordinator, Monica Castro, at moc9080@nyp.org.
