Recruiting Organization: Collier County Parks & Recreation

Collier County Parks and Recreation's Volunteer Garden Program is a group of volunteers who enjoy gardening, and/or pollinators. The garden program currently has four teams, each team dedicated to a specific garden. Team members may participate at more than one garden if they choose on a regular or sporadic basis planned with the team lead.

Our garden program is comprised of 18 full time and seasonal residents of Lee and Collier County. While each team has a specific garden and work day each week, our group comes together frequently for Butterfly counts, Butterfly identification training, plant identification training, excursions to other local gardens and preserves. We're a group, a team of teams, a social club and friends.

We have openings on all our garden teams, and wish to add a new team to our team of teams :).

Garden locations to choose from:

  • *Conner Park, 492 Bluebill Drive, Naples, FL. 34108 - (Growing this team)
  • North Collier Regional Park, 15000 Livingston Road, Naples, FL. 34109 (Growing this team and the size of this garden)
  • Sugden Regional Park, 4284 Avalon Drive, Naples, FL. 34112 (Growing this team)
  • *Veterans Community Park, 1895 Veterans Park Dr. Naples, FL. 34110 ( Establishing a new team)

*Garden team meets every other week for the time being.

Garden hours are morning, during the work week and are generally 2 hour shifts due to the Florida heat. Team members, dead head plants, trim bushes and trees, weed, and, mulch in all garden locations. Opportunities for propagation may be available if you are interested. We also have a propagation area at North Collier Regional Park where we are able to use cuttings from existing garden plants in other gardens, replace plants that don't survive and to start new gardens.

Every team member goes through training, in a garden with the program Lead Connie or other team lead. This training helps to learn the specific garden, the ecosystem of the garden and the wildlife and pollinators it is a haven to. Team members are welcomed even if you're ready to learn something you've not had much time or experience with, but if you have extensive knowledge of gardening or pollinators we'd like to meet you too.

All gardens, garden maintenance, and growth is completed under the supervision of Collier County Parks and Recreation's maintenance supervisors and our maintenance superintendent.
