ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service
Please visit the new page to apply.
Blue Lake is located in the southern Warner Mountains, in rural Northeast California. This beautiful 160-acre lake sits at 6,000 feet in elevation and features a campground, a day-use area with a boat launch, and the Blue Lake National Recreation Trail that circles the lake. There is also a youth camp, permitted by the Forest Service, located nearby. The gateway community of Likely is located 13 miles away (~25 minutes). Full-service communities in the vicinity include Alturas (1 hour) and Susanville (2 hours).
Blue Lake Campground features 48 sites on a first-come-first-served basis and is the largest campground in the Warner Mountain Ranger District. This fee campground features many amenities including toilets, drinking water, trash collection, fire pits, and picnic tables. Directly across from the host site, there is a group site available for reservations on recreation.gov. This is the only site available for reservation at Blue Lake Campground. All camp sites including the host site have no hookups (electric, water). However, the host site has its individual water spigot, picnic table, fire ring, pedestal grill, and septic holding tank.
Camp host(s) are expected to camp on-site through the season [Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend (May 28 th - September 6 th )] and provide general oversight and management of the facility, provide information to visitors, and coordinate with Forest Service staff on a frequent basis. We are flexible with start and end dates. Host(s) are welcome to start at the beginning of May and stay through October (dependent on snow levels).
Along with free camping, host(s) will earn $20 each day services are provided. Work schedules are flexible, though being present at least 5 days a week, including weekends and holidays, is expected. A Forest Service vehicle can be provided, and supplies such as propane can be reimbursed.
