Fosters need to be located within 30 minutes outside of Peoria. Our foster program provides an opportunity to introduce a pet in need of fostership into your home without making a lifelong commitment. We always need foster homes for nursing mothers, orphan kittens that require 24/7 care, fearful or shy kittens, sick or injured cats and kittens that need extra care or are recovering from surgery, and cats/kittens that need a break from the shelter environment due to stress or length of stay. Simply fill out an application at samsrescue.org/foster.html and note your areas of interest. Some fosters require more time and experience than others. Description

Stray Animal Midway Shelter, SAMS, is a no-kill animal shelter in Hanna City. Incorporated in 2010 to help reduce the number of homeless animals in central Illinois. In our first 3 years, we spayed/neutered over 300 dogs and cats at no cost to their owners. Those surgeries prevented thousands of animals from being born into a world with no room for them. Since opening our shelter in March 2014, SAMS has placed almost 3,000 animals in loving homes through our adoption program.

  • Must be at least 21
  • Nursing mothers with litter/kittens under 8 weeks return when kittens are 8 weeks of age. Surgery recovery cats and kittens: dependent on surgery and extent of repair. Fearful kittens return based on behavior. Shelter Getaways are minimum of 1 week.
  • Spare room or bathroom to keep fosters separate. Live in the Peoria area or within 30 minutes of the 61515 zipcode.
