The Volunteer Marketing Coordinator for Sims Library of Poetry (SLP) plays a vital role in promoting our organization's events, initiatives, and mission through various marketing channels, with a primary focus on social media engagement and content creation. This volunteer position offers an opportunity for individuals to develop and showcase their marketing skills while contributing to the growth and visibility of a small non-profit organization dedicated to poetry and literature.

Who we are:

Community Literature Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching writers of color how to write and publish books.

The Sims Library of Poetry is an active and important branch of CLI and the community. We are the first black-owned poetry library in the state of California. We aim to engage with the South L.A. community by offering a space to read, write, study, perform, and appreciate poetry. Our Mission is to serve, educate, and find love for poetry, especially for marginalized people of color in the community of South Los Angeles.

What you’ll do:
  • Develop and implement social media marketing strategies to promote SLP events, initiatives, and activities.
  • Create compelling and engaging content for SLP's social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Monitor social media channels, engage with followers, respond to comments, and foster a sense of community around SLP.
  • Generate ideas for promoting SLP and its events beyond social media, including outreach to local media outlets and community organizations.
  • Collaborate with the SLP team to brainstorm and execute marketing campaigns and initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of marketing materials, including flyers, posters, and promotional videos.
  • Track and analyze the performance of marketing campaigns and provide insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Attend SLP events and activities to capture content for social media and engage with attendees.

Description

The Community Literature Initiative is a Los Angeles based nonprofit organization focused on teaching writers in the city how to create poetry and fiction of a publishable quality. The CLI course is a 10-month (September to June) training program to refine works-in-progress into finalized manuscripts ready for publication. At the conclusion of the 10-month program, all participants are guaranteed a first-book publishing contract with one of our partnering Los Angeles Small Presses. At the conclusion of our program, all students emerge knowledgeable published authors! In addition to offering these courses, CLI staff & students teach free creative writing courses in local high schools.
