Hunt for the Yeti: Volunteer Opportunities

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission

  • Spots available: 8

Join the team that makes the Yeti Magic(tm) possible! Last year, hundreds of people explored the snow-covered Rolling Hills County Park in search of the elusive Eddie the Yeti, with clues, riddles, prizes, snacks and hot cocoa, and a whole lot of fun for the entire family. Volunteer opportunities range from hospitality and refreshments up to and including one of four live Yetis! Whether you step up as The Yeti or prefer supporting as a Yeti Handler (spokesperson and cultural interpreter for the Yeti), you’ll delight families while bringing them outdoors to experience and enjoy wintertime in Michigan. Don’t miss your chance to join the team putting on Washtenaw County’s biggest, best and original Hunt for the Yeti experience!

A pizza lunch will be served for volunteers at 11:15AM.

11:30AM - 2PM
* Spread warmth and cheer by providing families their end-of-hunt hot cocoa and cookies, while also helping as needed to supply participants with essential event information.
* You’re a people person (ages 16+), with a friendly demeanor who likes helping others.
* Indoor position, accessible for people with a variety of abilities.
* Come early at 11:15am for pizza and Yeti camaraderie

YETI HANDLERS (4 volunteers requested)
10AM - 2PM
* Make the Yeti Magic (tm) possible by acting as spokesperson and cultural interpreter for The Yeti. You’ll help keep The Yeti experience positive for all visitors, comfort the Yeti’s youngest friends, take pictures of families with The Yeti, while also helping as needed to supply participants with essential event information.
* You’re a people person (ages 16+), with a friendly demeanor who likes helping others, who likes play-acting with families, who feels comfortable outdoors in all weather conditions (sleet, rain or snow), and who is comfortable using a radio for communication.

THE YETI (4 volunteers requested)
10AM - 2PM
* Play the part of the mythical yeti creature and be the star of the show! You’ll entertain guests by playfully hiding in plain sight, luring families into fun experiences with nature.
* You’re someone ages 16+ who can take joy in acting as a mascot in a suit, with the ability to generate playful, safe rapport with children and families (the yeti is not scary), and who is comfortable walking off trail in the woods in all conditions (sleet, rain or snow).
