Help with a local mathematics competition at UCSD on February 24, 2024. Approximately 30 middles schools compete for awards and advancement the California State competition. Volunteers help with registration, proctoring testing rooms and grading student tests. All training takes place the morning of the competition.

Mission Statement

Increase enthusiasm for and enhance achievement in middle school mathematics throughout the United States.

Description

The San Diego Chapter MATHCOUNTS Competition is a competition for middle school students (grades 6-8) in the San Diego and Imperial counties. The top teams and individual students advance to the State competition in March. The top four California students compete at the National competition in May. The program is designed to encourage students to continue in STEM education.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 12
  • Orientation or Training
  • Registration - 8 am to 9 am, Proctor - 8:30 am to 12 noon, Grader - 9:30 am to 2:30 pm
  • No knowledge of math required. All training takes place the day of the event. Proctors run student testing rooms, graders grade tests using an answer key. Age 16 or older for proctors. Other positions age 12 or older.
