Mission Statement

Austin Achieve Public Schools (AAPS) is a tuition-free, open-enrollment public charter school preparing Austin youth to attend and excel at top universities. We are building the next generation of community leaders by closing the opportunity gap for our scholars and families. We achieve this goal by providing a high-quality public education, and by equipping scholars to become self-advocates.

Description

AAPS began its journey with just 104 sixth graders and has grown to now serve over 2,500 scholars in grades Pre-K-12 across three campuses. Our scholar population is 86% Latinx, 11% Black/African American, 2% White, and 1% Multiracial. 99% of our schools qualify for the Free and Reduced-Price Lunch Program (FRPL), a food assistance program with eligibility determined by proximity to the poverty line. 10% of scholars receive special education services, and 61% of pupils are enrolled in an English Language Learners program; these scholars receive English as a Second Language program materials and support in the classroom.

Since its opening, AAPS has consistently served thousands of families in Northeast Austin by providing access to high-quality education and free wraparound services, including nutrition support, mental-wellness services that are available to scholars and families alike, Restorative Justice programming that has allowed us to eliminate suspensions, robust after-school activities, and community health programs. All AAPS scholars have access to school social workers, who offer comprehensive counseling services to both our scholars and their families at no cost. It is these wraparound supports that truly set AAPS apart from neighboring traditional public and charter schools.
