ORGANIZATION: Girls on the Run of the Bay Area

Girls on the Run is a nonprofit after-school program that builds confidence in girls in the 3rd-8th grades. Our program combines physical activity with intentionally designed lessons encouraging mental, social, and emotional development.


We are seeking dedicated, enthusiastic volunteer coaches who are committed to empowering girls with valuable life lessons! We'll provide you with training, curriculum, supplies, and co-coaches- everything you'll need to coach a safe, successful season and help girls in your community activate their limitless potential!


Lafayette Reservoir practice times: Tues/Thurs 4:00-5:15pm

Coach Responsibilities:


  • Serve as a role model and mentor for the participating girls
  • Prepare & collaborate with other coaches to facilitate twice-weekly lessons
  • Attend both weekly practices
  • Communicate with parents/guardians of program participants as needed
  • Participate in the Girls on the Run 5K
  • Have fun motivating girls to become healthy and confident!

Coach Qualifications:


  • Interest in inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident!
  • Interest in running or exercise is a plus but not required (you do not need to be a runner or a competitive athlete to be a successful coach)!
  • Able to complete 3 hours of on-demand coach training and one 3 hour in-person training session to prepare you to lead this season
  • Able to dedicate approximately 5-7 hours a week from February-May
  • Able to complete a short list of onboarding requirements such as a fingerprint background check

Spring 2023 Season Calendar: Feb 27 start


  • January 25: Coach due date for TB, online training completion
  • Late January/early February: in-person coach training options available at a variety of locations
  • Week of February 27: Season starts this week (exact start date depends on your practice days)
  • May 13: Quarry Lakes 5K

Founded in 2002 Girls on the Run San Francisco is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Girls on the Run San Francisco is a chapter of Girls on the Run International, which was founded in 1996 and is based in Charlotte, NC. About 2000 girls participate in our local bay area programs each year.
