The classes are in place to help people who are currently in the citizenship process or are gaining the courage and knowledge to do so. The classes focus on the citizenship test and interview. During an immigration interview, a USCIS officer asks questions about their application, so there is group study work done surrounding the test, as well as one-on-one acting out of the interview to help the applicant get used to the types of questions and answers. Then there is the test which has two parts: an English test and a civics test. The civics test is made up of 100 questions. During the naturalization interview, a USCIS officer will ask you up to 10 questions from the list of 100 and at least six of the 10 questions must be answered correctly to pass the civics test. Your duty as a volunteer would be to assist in this process and practice with the applicants. It is extremely important work, and by joining this volunteer opportunity, you will be contributing to building a safe space for immigrants to learn and achieve their goals.
