NOMV addresses wellbeing in veterinary medicine through multiple innovative and inclusive pathways including: evidence-based peer support; comprehensive programs providing leadership focused on wellness; grant programs providing financial support for individuals and clinics experiencing crisis; mentorship and best practices programs addressing mental health from educational institutions to the workplace; raising awareness of the status of mental health in the profession; and research to further the advancement of wellness, mental health, and the reduction of suicide in veterinary professionals. About the Resources CommitteeThe NOMV Resources Committee is focused on helping individuals in the veterinary profession find resources of various kinds and connect them to services both within and without NOMV. These resources include, but are not limited to: micro grants, mental health services, workplace wellness resources, and peer support.
The committee is a working group of empathetic individuals who communicate openly and trust the judgment of one another; believe in the mission of providing financial and resource support to veterinary professionals in crisis; and execute the work, as laid out in the trainings and SOPs, to the best of their ability in partnership with NOMV staff and leadership.
Volunteer Position DescriptionResource Committee volunteers serve as part of a dynamic team whose essential duties are to:
- Advise the NOMV Board of Directors on how to allocate micro grants to applicants requesting the funds (70%)
- Support the development of a resource database called "NOMV’s List" (10%)
- Collaborate with other NOMV committees and partner organizations to distribute available resources to those in need (10%)
- Help to raise awareness about and funds for the NOMV Resources program (10%)
Committee members need to be able to commit 1 - 2 hours per week to committee work (dispersed and mostly on their own schedule) and regularly attend scheduled monthly meetings (1-2 hours).
Qualifications- Team player comfortable collaborating with a 100% remote/virtual team
- Compassion and empathy
- Financial literacy
- Computer and technology literacy (ability to use online applications, virtual communication tools, and read and understand spreadsheets)
- An understanding of of how non-profits function
- Must pass a background check (paid for by NOMV)
- 4-5 hours of training required prior to volunteering including suicide prevention training (paid for by NOMV)
