ORGANIZATION: PILLARS INC

Purpose: Shelter Assistants act as supplemental support to staff at both Pillars shelters. While Shelter Assistants are providing support throughout shelter for staff, Crisis Housing staff can provide one-on-one support to clients and provide intake interviews for incoming individuals & families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide donation intake assistance
  • Store donations in their proper storage areas
  • Date and rotate donations, including non-perishable food donations
  • Assist staff with filling other critical volunteer roles as needed during volunteer’s shift
  • Adult & Family Shelter Only Tasks:
    • Fill voucher request for clients by accessing donation storage throughout shelter
    • Sort mail for clients
  • Adult Shelter Only Tasks:
    • Prepare bagged lunches for clients working the following day
    • Serve worker’s trays (leftovers) for clients that arrive after dinner, following work or appointments
    • Assist with shelter & client laundry

All new Pillars volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation. Sign up information will be sent to you if you are interested.

3 Shifts

  • 08:00 AM to 12:00 PM
    Minimum of 2-hours within the timeframe given; you will notify the Volunteer Manager of your 2-hour shift ahead of time! Adult & Family Shelter only.
  • 03:00 PM to 08:00 PM
    Minimum of 2-hours within the timeframe given; you will notify the Volunteer Manager of your 2-hour shift ahead of time! Adult & Family Shelter only.
  • 05:00 PM to 10:00 PM
    Minimum of 2-hours within the timeframe given; you will notify the Volunteer Manager of your 2-hour shift ahead of time! Adult Shelter only.
