Human Rights Connected (HRC) empowers civil society in protecting and preserving human rights through legal institutions or community organizing. We help human rights defenders access the human rights legal framework through knowledge and resource-sharing. Through technical support, trainings, the curation of practical resources, and other creative projects, we promote understanding of the legal framework and strategic nonviolent action.
Position Summary
Under supervision of the Education Lead, you’ll support the planning, development, design, and implementation of our two core human rights education (HRE) initiatives: action guides and blog campaigns. From initiation to evaluation, you will support concept/project design, content creation, promotion plan, and evaluation. You will monitor and report on HRCblog performance, edit posts, and promote action guides. Your work will help increase access to practical HRE content that will inform and equip HRC's audience about HRE and civil resistance.
As with all of our positions, this role is volunteer-based and unpaid. Candidates must work independently, take initiative and pursue creative approaches to problem solving.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Education Lead with maintaining the blog by performing quality assurance checks, improving image quality, writing and pitching ideas, and coordinating guest contributor outreach.
- Copy edit, proofread, and publish human rights and civil resistance-related blog posts.
- Develop, write, edit, update, and promote action guides on specific human rights issues.
- Co-lead with digital community manager the promotion of HRE projects and blog posts.
- Collaborate and coordinate with other HRC teams to publish and promote blog content.
- Assist with updating and presenting the metrics and impact of the HRCBlog.
- Participate in HRC’s ongoing operations and weekly team meetings.
- Provide other assistance to support HRC’s mission and activities, as needed.
Qualifications
- Background or professional interest in human rights, human rights education, and/or civil resistance.
- Excellent written communication, time management, and organizational skills; independent driven.
- Ability to work remotely and comfortable working in a networked organization
- Familiarity with Wordpress, Canva, and/or Mailchimp
- English proficiency required; additional language ability preferred
- Editing, copywriting, curriculum development, and/or blog maintenance experience preferred
