Mission: The African American Firefighter Museum (AAFFM) is dedicated to collecting, conserving, and sharing the heritage of African American Firefighters through collaboration and education.
Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities: The AAFFM is looking for experienced volunteers who can research and identify funding, as well as develop, write, and submit proposals, letters, reports, and other materials as necessary to secure grant support from foundations, corporations, and government funding sources. The business development volunteer will have excellent writing, grammar, and communication skills. The volunteer will:
Understand the need of the organization
Develop fundraising strategies and implementation plan
Identify and develop strategies to optimize the grants administration process
Create and maintain database of relevant grant opportunities and grant awards
Investigate and identify prospective funding sources
Develop effective grant proposals and grant reports based on the organizational requirement
Research, develop, and draft inquiries, letters, and other fundraising documents
Draft compelling grant proposal narratives and other correspondence to solicit grant funds
Track and monitor proposals, their deadlines, and requirements
Prepare and present reports on fundraising activities to Board of Directors
Join meetings periodically to understand the fundraising needs
Prepare budget plans and allocation along with Board of Directors
Requirements:
Experience in philanthropy, non-profit business development, and/or fundraising
Working knowledge of MS Office
Strong planning, communication, and organizational skills
Excellent writing, grammar, research skills
Time Commitment:
3-6 month minimum
Flexible hours to be determined each week until the completion of the project
Volunteers will need to be mindful of deadlines
Physical Requirements:
This opportunity is remote
Age requirement: This opportunity is for 55 and older volunteers only
