Purpose:
This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) International Services (ISD) department. This is a 100% virtual (volunteer-from-home) opportunity.
The Safeguarding, Protection and Accountability Volunteer supports the preparedness team on issues related to community engagement & accountability, protection, gender & inclusion, and safeguarding. The volunteer would also liaise with Design, Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting, and Learning (DMERL) and response/readiness teams on these topics. The volunteer would assist on a cross-cutting scorecard to enhance safeguarding/ community engagement and accountability (CEA)/ protection, gender, and inclusion (PGI) across all ISD divisions to ensure strong staff understanding and commitment to accountability to affected populations. This includes ensuring staff commitment to prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) and safeguarding, whistleblowing, and establishment mechanisms to do this outside of the USA. It also includes a staff capacity assessment on issues related to (PGI) and training plan, done both in person and virtually.
Responsibilities:
The Safeguarding, Protection & Accountability Volunteer acts in support of the Global Disaster Preparedness Center in the following ways:
- organizational assessment on PGI/CEA/Safeguarding knowledge & gaps
- adapting International Federation of Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and other National Society (NS) trainings and putting together a training package and plan
- conducting trainings, both virtual and in person (optional)
Required:
- Reliable access to resources needed to volunteer 100% virtually
- Experience working on topics related to safeguarding and protection in humanitarian settings
- Experience organizing internal capacity assessments and training plans
- Experience working with and training others on issues related to sensitive topics
- General understanding and application of universal standards and guidelines for Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse
- Experience in adult learning and in providing technical capacity building
- Knowledge and ability to coordinate with relevant local stakeholders including sharing learning, resources, and capacities when possible.

- Planning, monitoring, evaluation, and analytical skills
- Basic computer skills & ability to hold meetings and trainings online
- Ability to meet for an hour or two a week during business hours
Preferred:
- Fluency in English & Spanish
- Previous experience working in humanitarian protection programming outside of the USA
- A solid understanding of how protection can be mainstreamed across the disaster management cycle
Training:
ISD training as required by the department
Length Of Appointment:
6 months, renewable
