Recruiting Organization: Massachusetts Head Start Association
The Massachusetts Head Start Association (MHSA) serves as the voice of Head Start in Massachusetts by providing collaborative learning opportunities, leveraging partnerships, and advocating for Head Start programs. MHSA supports the 29 Head Start programs in MA as described by our mission statement. In 2021, more than 10,000 children from birth to age 5 years and their families received comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, mental health, and family support services from the more than 4,000 staff working in MA Head Start programs. Our organization is led by a volunteer Board of Directors and paid Executive Director.
The Massachusetts Head Start Association Development Committee is responsible for the ongoing revenue growth of the Association, including identifying growth opportunities, new revenue sources, and opportunities to take on new projects and activities. Possible work could include identifying and reviewing grant applications, overseeing the creation of new projects, and assessing new opportunities for feasibility and mission fit. The Development Committee meets for 2 hours, 4 times a year, and works via email in between meetings.
Committee members are expected to consider development opportunities from a variety of sources, including but not limited to corporate sponsorships, grantmaking foundations, and government funders. Additionally, the Development Committee is responsible for assessing existing revenue generating activities, collecting data, and evaluating outcomes. The Development Committee may choose to engage in other forms of MHSA data collection, including member surveys.
We are specifically seeking individuals with a background in grant writing to private and corporate foundations, business groups, and corporate philanthropy. We are seeking to apply for 4 grants annually with the goal of receiving $25-50k in grants in the next 18 months.
