OUSD’s Central Academic Recovery (CAR) team has asked Oakland Serves to provide additional support for students who have been negatively impacted by the pandemic, due to which almost half of tenth graders are not currently on track to graduation. Help students succeed in a credit recovery class during the school day at one of several Oakland high schools. This once-a-week volunteer opportunity may be amenable to 2 to 4 people volunteering as a group.

We put mentors in high school classes that have high failure rates. We work with students that need extra support to keep them on the path to graduation. Don't let the door shut on these students. Description
Since 2018, Oakland Serves has been helping high school students graduate, focusing on underserved and minority communities in which students may face a variety of challenges that impede their success. We work with OUSD, with schools and teachers to identify where our mentors can have the biggest impact on student achievement. We match our volunteer mentors with whole classrooms and with individual students as needed to increase the ability of as many students as possible to progress to graduation.
