Here at Beacon Hospice of Michigan, we are committed to working with each volunteer on an individual basis. We want to build a mutually beneficial relationship in which you, our valued volunteer, use your strengths, passions and dedication to not only benefit Beacon Hospice, but to positively enhance your own life. Our office in Canton, Michigan serves a 60-mile radius, but you can choose where and when you volunteer. We have a variety of needs, so please let us know if any of the following interests you...

SOCIAL VISITS - visiting patients to offer them companionship. This is especially needed for our patients residing in nursing facilities in the Adrian area.

CAREGIVER RELIEF - visiting patients in order to sit with them while their spouse/family member/caregiver run errands or get a break for a few hours. This is especially needed for our patients residing in their own homes in the Adrian area.

OFFICE - assisting our office staff with assembling informational packets, making copies, or unboxing/organizing medical supplies. If you enjoy Excel spreadsheets, our Coordinator of Volunteer Services could use your help with a monthly project that could be completed from your home.

MUSIC VISITS - if you are gifted in music (vocal or instrumental) and have a desire to bring the joy of music to our patients, we would love to hear from you.

PET THERAPY - If you and your dog have completed a certification program for pet therapy and you have a desire to visit our hospice patient(s), we would love to hear from you.

VETERAN TO VETERAN VISITS - Are you a military veteran? You are a valuable resource for other veterans at the end of life as you share similar experiences, common language, and codes of conduct and honor.

As a trained Volunteer with Beacon Hospice, you are able to set your own hours, location(s), and activity.

Description

Beacon hospice is dedicated to providing care and comfort to a terminally ill patient and their family. We provide the highest quality of care possible by employing a team of healthcare professionals to administer comfort and support.

Beacon Hospice strives to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs of patients and family members who share the emotional trauma of a terminal illness. Beacon Hospice is committed to educate the community and increase awareness of the hospice concept of care among medical professionals, lay persons, clergy, and those in need of a compassionate approach to care.

Beacon Hospice admits patients without regard to race, religion, national origin, ancestry, marital status, disability, or sexual preference. The admission criteria does not deny admission or services to people with communicable diseases including but not limited to HIV, MRSA, and Hepatitis B.

Beacon Hospice will provide services to the terminally ill in their home, wherever home may be. There are times when caring for a loved one at home is simply not possible. Beacon Hospice staff also provide care at many nursing facilities in Southeastern Michigan.
