Tompkins County Office for the Aging is looking for kind, friendly, dependable volunteers who are able to teach basic technology to assist our Tompkins County aging population, aged 60 and above, in learning how to navigate the world of technology on their smart phones, tablets, laptops and computers. This volunteer program came about during the COVID pandemic, as we saw a rise in Seniors that were socially isolated and lonely, and unconnected family, friends, and the world.
There are two ways we provide this service:
-Project CARE Friendly Visitor Program: This program matches Seniors with a volunteer who makes weekly friendly visits and assists them in navigating technology on their own devices.
-Senior Planet Tablet Project: Provides income eligible Tompkins County Seniors with a tablet and one year of connectivity. Volunteers assist participants in the program in learning how to navigate their tablet and meet benchmarks, such as email, downloading an app, telehealth, virtual visits, and much more, at their learning ability.
