Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Braven

  • 1 person is interested

Braven is looking for virtual volunteers to empower underrepresented college students towards graduation and a strong first job. I hope you’ll consider applying.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Braven volunteer, you will be paired with promising college students from diverse backgrounds. Braven is currently looking for volunteers for two programs:

  • Leadership Coaches lead teams of 5-8 diverse college students through a rigorous 15-week leadership and career course
  • Professional Mentors provide weekly 1:1 coaching on the job search and application process for 12 weeks

Volunteering with Braven is a great opportunity to pay it forward, gain leadership experience, and build strong relationships with mentees.

HOW TO LEARN MORE & APPLY

Visit Braven’s website, www.bebraven.org, for more details about each program. If you have any questions, please reach out to volunteers@bebraven.org.

Braven is especially in need of volunteers who identify as people of color and first-gen college grads themselves, though all with an interest in giving back are encouraged to apply.

ABOUT BRAVEN & THE PROBLEM YOU’D HELP SOLVE

Only 25% of low-income or first-generation college students graduate and attain a strong job. At the same time, local companies struggle to hire and retain local, diverse talent. Braven seeks to close this talent gap by partnering with colleges and companies to equip underrepresented young people with the skills, networks, and experiences they need to succeed professionally.

BRAVEN’S RESULTS TO DATE

Before and amid the pandemic, Braven Fellows outpace the national average for strong job attainment; within six months of graduation, 58% of Fellows in the Class of 2020 secured quality full-time jobs worthy of their bachelor’s degree or enrolled in graduate school compared to 41% of all students and 39% of students from similar backgrounds. In addition, 95% of our Fellows are persisting in or have graduated from college, and 75% of Braven college graduates have at least one internship during college, compared with 68% of all college graduates.

93% of volunteers have said this was the most rewarding volunteer experience they’ve ever been a part of, and 99% say the program helped them develop and practice skills that apply directly to their job and leadership growth. Mission Statement

Braven empowers promising underrepresented young people -- first-generation college students, students on Pell grants and/or from low-income communities, and students of color -- on their path to college graduation and strong first jobs, which lead to meaningful careers and lives of impact.

Description

Braven empowers promising young people on their path to college graduation and strong first jobs. We believe that our next generation of leaders will emerge from everywhere, so we take a particular interest in ensuring our talent network is filled with people from underrepresented backgrounds. To do so, Braven partners with educational institutions, volunteer professionals, and employers to offer a rigorous and relevant career readiness course, that is followed by robust campus-based alumni programming. The course is targeted as a part of the sophomore or transfer junior experience.

The Braven Accelerator is a rigorous course that builds Fellows’ leadership mindsets and confidence while they build, practice, and apply hard and soft skills. Fellows, with the guidance of their volunteer Leadership Coach and cohort of 5-7 peers, build a personalized roadmap towards success and the self-motivation to realize their vision. After the course, Fellows receive specialized engagements, such as networking events and connections to career-accelerating experiences, through which they continue to build a strong network and access critical information and experiences to support their career trajectory.
