Bristol Hospital Emergency Department: Greeter Volunteers

In order to improve the flow of patients arriving at the Emergency Department (E.D.) in need of medical care Bristol Health has decided to PILOT a Volunteer Greeter Program in the Emergency Department.

As a Volunteer Greeter this person would: Assist patients, visitors and family that arrive at the Emergency Department. Performs initial "quick reception" before patient/family is seen by registration or the triage nurse. In most instances, the greeter is the 1st contact when arriving at the Emergency Dept. He or she’s responsibility is to show our guests we at Bristol Health are here to help you.

Work Shifts: Volunteer per four hour shift, seven days a week is our goal at Bristol Health. The ED Greeter volunteer hours are any time between 9 a.m. until 11 p.m daily.

Physical Requirements: Some amount of standing and walking. Most of the time, the volunteer is sitting at a podium.

Work Environment: The Emergency Department is a fast paced environment. The Greeter Volunteer will be stationed in the reception or lobby area of the Emergency Department at Bristol Hospital.

Volunteers for this assignment must:

  • Demonstrate maturity and ability to maintain a healthy perspective while dealing with the personal issues of others.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, staff and volunteers.

  • Must be able to serve under pressure and prioritize needs, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.

  • The ability to serve independently.

  • Adhere to HIPAA & PHI rules and regulations. Be discreet in respecting and understanding the confidentiality of all patient information or be subject to disciplinary action including dismissal from the program.

  • Be cheerful, cordial, and have an outgoing personality.

  • Be able to perform intermediate keyboard functions on the computer.

  • Be dependable in keeping time commitment.

  • Be committed to Bristol Health System and its Patient-Focused Care mission.

Responsibilities: Volunteers will need to:

  • "Check" patients in by obtaining their first name and last initial

  • Notify PAR registration team if the patient needs to be seen by medical staff immediately

Limitations: Volunteers must work within their scope of practice.Training is required!
