The Job Search Mentor will work with the Career Development team which includes the Client Services Manager & Coordinator and other volunteer Career Coaches in assisting clients with workforce readiness services. The Job Search Lab is located in the Career Success Center and is open to clients to work both independently and with a Career Coach as they strengthen their job search skills.
Some clients will be scheduled to meet in the Lab with trained Career Coaches with HR experience for one-on-one appointments for resume development, career assessments, and mock interviews. Other times, clients will use the Lab as a drop-in service working more independently. The Job Search Mentor will be available to offer support to clients during their independent search.
The Job Search Mentor may be asked to work one-on-one with clients on the following services:
Searching for jobs online
Researching and reviewing job descriptions
Applying for jobs and uploading their resume
Printing their resume
Navigating Linkedin and updating their profile
Answering basic email and Microsoft office questions
Researching and updating job search resources by function
Outreaching to community partners about our services
Researching upcoming hiring fairs
Time commitment: Preferable to have a minimum of a 6 month commitment with flexibility for vacations and other breaks when needed. 2 hrs weekly, filling at least one of the following shifts:
Mondays: 10am-12pm / 1pm-3pm
Wednesdays: 1pm-3pm
Thursdays: 10am-12pm
Fridays: 1pm-3pm
Preferred qualifications:
Experience navigating popular job search sites (i.e. indeed, monster, careerbuilder, etc.)
Experience navigating Linkedin
Experience using Microsoft Office software, especially Word
Familiarity researching resources and websites via Google or Microsoft Edge
Strong verbal and written English communication skills
Bilingual (Spanish and Vietnamese a plus)
Openness to work with diverse populations include but not limited to, seniors, young adults, reentry and veterans.
Training and orientation will be provided.
