Humane Society of Marion County Shelter

A level one volunteer is someone that has just been accepted to our volunteer program and has not completed their first 10 hours. This individual has had a basic orientation and has a small list of activities that do not involve animal interaction. After 10 hours of getting to know each other and the organization you can choose a dog, cat or both track!

A level one volunteer may do any of the following while we are getting to know each other:
Basic orientation & tour of the facility
Shadow other volunteers who are level 2 and up or staff
Not allowed to open front cages, kennels, or to enter separation room/ISO
Volunteer on their own with level one activities
Dishes & Food Prep
Cleaning/Scooping Boxes
Assisting with watering
Washing walls, windows, and cages
Wiping cat towers
Fundraising
Thrift Store
Clerical & Mailings
Foster Parents
Reception & Greeting
Kennel work

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 14
  • Orientation or Training
  • Time is valuable and we understand that. If you can just swing by for 15 min or 2+ hours we appreciate all time volunteered.
  • We accept volunteers age 14+. Age 14-15 must have another volunteer over the age of 21 with them at all times (preferably a family member). Age 14-17 must have parent signature and permission slip signed.
