Overview

Grant writing includes research and preparation of grant proposals. To develop proposals, the volunteer will work with CAC’s Director of Development to familiarize themselves with CAC’s programs, goals and financial needs.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • The Grant Writer's primary goals are to assist CAC by completing and submitting applications for private and/or corporate foundations available to CAC.
  • Communicate effectively with CAC to investigate and understand needs, requests and opportunities.
  • Create and maintain funding calendar activities to meet target deadlines
  • Research and identify available funding opportunities
  • Prepare proposals by determining concepts, clarifying needs with opportunities, gathering and formatting information, writing drafts, and obtaining approvals.
  • Maintain quality by using templates, following proposal-writing standards including readability, consistency, and tone and maintaining proposal support databases.
  • Communicate authentically and effectively with existing and proposed foundations
  • Ensure CAC complies with grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors
  • Keep detailed documentation regarding grant schedules, solicitations, and awards
  • Maintain communication on progress with Director of Development

Skills and qualifications

  • Appropriate level of experience in grant writing, prospect research, general fundraising or comparable and transferable skills acquired in a professional setting
  • Marketing knowledge and success stories in grant writing
  • Evidence of strong presentation, written communication, graphic design, layout, and technical documentation skills
  • Problem-solving, process improvement, and strategic planning skills.
  • Deadline-orientation
  • Outstanding grammar and research skills

The Children’s Advocacy Center of North and Northwest Cook County is the leading resource to empower and heal abused children and prevent violence against children. We serve 38 communities in the Cook County area and see over 1,000 children and their families each year.

Description

Welcome to the Children’s Advocacy Center of North & Northwest Cook County. CAC provides free, healing services to children who have experienced abuse, allowing them to process trauma and reclaim their childhoods.

The goal of CAC is to provide a multidisciplinary approach to severe physical and child sexual abuse cases. CAC recognizes the special, unique needs of child victims, while demanding accountability for the crime of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse.

A 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, CAC is a fully accredited member of the National Children’s Alliance. CAC provides all services free of charge in both English and Spanish.
