Unbroken Dreams works with the people who are experiencing homelessness to help them get from dependency on the system to self sufficiency. We are working with Hillsborough County to host a cold weather shelter during the Winter 2022-2023 season. During the nights that are declared "cold" by Hillsborough County, we will open our facility and host approximately 20 people. We need volunteers to check clients in and "hang out" during the evening and early morning hours (6 p.m. - 6 a.m.) to oversee that no problems arise. Hanging out may include a movie, games, cards, singing, dancing, or whatever you would like to make the time go faster. The shifts can be split between two or three shifts to make them more manageable. Contact us if you are interested or know someone who might be interested in volunteering.

Mission Statement

To offer people who have been disadvantaged by incarceration, homelessness, and other life challenges the opportunity to fulfill their potential and move towards an independent lifestyle and positive future.

Description

Unbroken Dreams was established as a non-profit 501c3 organization to help less fortunate people develop self-esteem and rebuild their lives by restoring the participant as a responsible member of the community. We provide the necessary housing location assistance, education, employment opportunities, and life skills training for people experiencing homelessness and people previously incarcerated as they move from dependent to self-sufficient lifestyles.

We believe that people have a difficult time integrating into society after incarceration or trauma if they do not have the fundamentals of life: a home, a job, and a feeling of community. They are in desperate need of housing as well as life skills to empower them to self-sufficiency. They will also benefit from numerous complementary supportive services, including life coaching, financial coaching, and soft skills instruction. Our goal is to empower our users to self-sufficiency by providing a program that will provide the necessary tools to assist them in their journey.
