The Native American nonprofit, Elderberry Wisdom Farm is welcoming volunteers through end of July to repot native tree and shrub species. Water and tend vegetable gardens. Help pull invasive species that harm native plants and soil. EWF has expanded its experiential service learning habitat restoration farm to four acres with development of our two-acre Native Plant Nursery.
We welcome volunteers to join us and celebrate Summer by helping us to tend our native plant nursery site which is located in our Oregon white oak woodlands in back of the farm. A number of projects are occurring, including repotting plants. Native trees that will be planted in Salem's urban tree canopies in the next year or two, plus we also will be mulching recently planted native tree and plant species, and removing invasives.
No experience is needed, and this is a great place to learn about habitat restoration of our ecosystems here in the Willamette Valley and how we integrate Traditional Ecological Knowledge. We truly appreciate the enthusiasm and good support of our volunteers who join us on Saturdays once a month to help with these projects. We also have mid-week opportunities if volunteers are available to join our interns who are expanding the nursery site this spring with the development of recessed flower beds that will house a number of new pollinator plants designed to restore pollinator populations in our Oregon white oak woodlands.
When you arrive you can work with our Habitat Restoration Educators/Mentors and our team of interns. They are knowledgeable, warm and gracious which makes the experience of helping so enjoyable. We appreciate your help keeping our farm and pollinators healthy. All activities are held outside and volunteers social distance plus they can wear masks if they prefer in order to minimize transmission of COVID or any other infectious diseases.
