Appalachian Wild has a hotline for the general public to reach out with inquiries about wildlife. Volunteers, responsible for the hotline, share information and help finders. The hotline volunteers are the front-line defense to stop interference with wildlife that doesn’t need our help and to expedite care to those wildlife that do need our help.

Volunteers must work 3-6 hours per week deepening on season, very flexible shifts. Ability to communicate remotely via email and phone is required. Willingness to respectfully and positively work with the public in stressful situations is required. Ability to work in a team setting is a must!

Mission Statement

Appalachian Wildlife Refuge is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that coordinates wildlife rehabilitation efforts in Western North Carolina by providing care for injured and orphaned wildlife, supporting the wildlife rehabilitation network, and offering conservation education to the community.

Description

Appalachian Wild was formed in 2014 to help with the increasing number of native wild animals in crisis in our region. Partnering with local home-based wildlife rehabilitators and specialized facilities, the organization provides rescue, triage, transport, and education. The wildlife rehabilitation facility opened in July 2018 and is expected to serve over 2,000 animals annually. The organization is a community resource to help our native wildlife and give them a second chance at life in the wild.
