Volunteer as a Freewheels Bike Connector: Assist our customers as they receive bicycles at our Jessamine location. Select an appropriate bike for them from our inventory. Fit them with a helmet and reinforce how to ride safely, using their lights and hand signals. Help them learn to use their bike lock. Do it with a smile and have fun! Freewheels Houston bikes provide freedom of transportation to refugees and veterans emerging from homelessness who need a way to get to work, school and other destinations. Bike Connectors know the basics of safe bicycling. Our used bikes have been cleaned and repaired by volunteers and are ready for distribution.
This assignment requires a customer-service orientation and patience in helping people who may have limited English language skills. No mechanical skills required; bike mechanics will be on-site to help clients with bike fit adjustments as needed.
Children younger than 14 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Mission Statement
Freewheels Houston volunteers repair donated used bicycles for people who need a way to get to work or school. We give bikes to refugees, veterans emerging from homelessness and young people from low-income families--people who are trying to make life better for themselves.
Description
Freewheels volunteers range from experienced mechanics to people who want to learn how to repair bikes. Your assignment will match your skills and we will help you learn more about repairing and maintaining bikes. Workdays at our well-equipped shop in southwest Houston are fun and productive. Volunteers also help distribute bikes and safety equipment and assist in shop operations.
