SPEF's Traditional Mentoring Program, focuses on providing academic and social/emotional support, as well as college and career readiness initiatives to students who have been identified by school staff as needing additional support. As a mentor, you will encourage, support, and serve as a role model to a student that has been chosen to participate in the program. Mentors are provided with a grade-specific workbook that reinforces our program’s four main objectives: goal setting, academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and college and career readiness.
Mentors are matched with a student and meet for weekly, one-hour sessions during the school day. Our program is unique that it brings mentors directly to students in the schools, making sessions accessible to students tho might not otherwise be able to participate due to after school activities or a lack of transportation.
Mentor Role & Responsibilities:
- Serve as a positive role model
- Support students through ongoing relationships
- Participate in activities together
- Strive for mutual respect
- Build self-esteem and motivation
- Help set goals and work toward accomplishing them
