Jacob Riis is looking for substitute teachers who are available to fill in in case a regular teacher calls out.

Subbing is in-person at our two locations in LIC and Astoria. This wouldn't be a regular commitment, rather we would put you on our call list for the times when we need a sub. Prior teaching experience is helpful but not required, and a lesson plan and materials will always be provided.

Class schedules include
morning (9:00 - 12:00 pm Tuesday to Thursday),
evening (6:00 - 9:00 pm Tuesday to Thursday),
and/or Saturday (9:30am - 4:00pm)
at our two program sites in Long Island City and Astoria, Queens.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Participant Interaction

• Provide content-based English language instruction at beginning, intermediate and/or advanced levels.

· Using the lesson plans provided, deliver material through a variety of instructional methods that are adapted to students’ diverse learning styles. Provide authentic language tasks, interactive activities, and opportunities to practice speaking and writing for fluency.

Administrative Functions

· Review lesson plan and materials provided in advance of subbing. Arrive 15 min before the class begins to get acclimated, prepare class materials, and set up the classroom.

· Submit signed daily attendance sheets for program records.
