ORGANIZATION: Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York

Betances Houses has an exciting new opportunity to make a difference in the lives of at-risk New York City youth. Over the next several months, you could be a mentor to someone in need!

The mentees are youth aged 17-24 y/o and are attending supportive workshops hosted by an affiliate of Catholic Charities. Our mentees need a caring, responsible adult to speak with about their workshop experiences and other subjects chosen by the program coordinator.
We have the curriculum, we just need you! Are you ready to sign up?

What will you do?

  • Have a 1-hour call with your assigned mentee once/week
  • Follow a curriculum that guides your discussions each week
  • Attend a remote team call on Mondays to prepare for your mentor session that week
  • Be a positive influence to 1 or 2 mentees!
Preferred Skills & Requirements
  • You enjoy active listening
  • Caring, empathetic personality
  • Ability to build trust
  • Interest in learning about your mentee and fostering a safe, honest environment
  • Experience working with at-risk youth
  • Reliability - ability to meet with your mentee same time each week (virtually)
  • Your are at least 25 years of age
  • Ability to attend a remote mentor session every Monday
Schedule/Commitment:
  • 1 hour of mentoring each week (you and your mentee decide on a time that works!)
  • 1 hour of mentor prep sessions each week
  • Ability to commit though June 2023
