Do you need clinical internship hours for your program of study? Are you interested in adding direct care experience to your resume? Do you feel inspired to provide comfort and support to a patient or family coping with a terminal illness?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, consider interning with ProMedica Hospice Atlanta today! The Atlanta office of ProMedica Hospice is currently seeking caring volunteer interns to support our agency by providing friendly visits, bereavement support, administrative assistance, or fulfilling other roles related to your area of study. Ambitious students pursuing a degree in the areas of nursing, social work, human services, or other healthcare fields are welcome to apply.

Volunteers are the heart of the hospice team and ProMedica Hospice Atlanta depends on them to help us provide the extra love and care that our patients and their families need at this time in their lives.

Hospice volunteer interns are oriented to the hospice program, the hospice philosophy, and hospice goals of caring to ensure that they have the skills needed to assist patients and their families.

Hospice volunteers and interns offer support, companionship, and practical compassionate help whether it is running errands, staying with the patient so that family members can take a break, reading to a patient, or holding someone’s hand. Internship assignments are also structured to include tasks and responsibilities that meet specific learning goals for developing clinical practice skills.

Volunteer Intern Learning Opportunities

  • Gain direct patient contact experience and complete patient care tasks under supervision of licensed professional within your area of study (nursing, social work, etc.)
  • Develop communication skills related to patient education and clinical care coordination
  • Observe barriers or challenges in patient care and exercise critical thinking or problem-solving skills to address patient needs
  • Gain competency in care planning and setting goals for intervention in patient care
  • Collaborate in patient care delivery through work with patients, families, and care providers
  • Receive training and education for safety, infection prevention, and corporate/governing policies

Volunteer Intern Role Requirements

Volunteer Interns must be 18 years or older, have a reliable means of transportation to the office and/or the volunteer assignment, and be willing to submit to the application screening process including a background check, reference check, fingerprinting, and TB testing prior to beginning the volunteer assignment. Volunteer Interns must also be willing to complete orientation training relevant to the volunteer role prior to the start of assignment. The application screening process and orientation training will be provided by the agency at NO COST to the volunteer!
