Provide food security to Orleans Parish residents, particularly those in the Lower Ninth Ward. Help our clients put together boxes of groceries for the week as well as distribute fresh produce that we receive on a weekly basis.

Shift is from 9:00am till 2:00pm. The address is 1739 Jourdan Avenue. Bring water and snacks if you need them - there's no defined break in the day, but we definitely want you to stay hydrated and happy!

Please also wear closed-toe shoes. Your tasks might include stocking shelves, moving boxes of food products, and helping clients to "shop" for groceries.

About lowernine.org

Location:

6018 El Dorado Street, New Orleans, LA 70117, US

Mission Statement

lower nine. org is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization involved in the long-term recovery of New Orleans’ historic Lower Ninth Ward from Hurricane Katrina and the levee breaches of 2005.

Description

lowernine.org is dedicated to training residents of, and volunteers in, the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, LA, in the skills necessary to bring this century-old historic neighborhood back to life after the devastation wrought by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. These skills include basic carpentry, roofing, plumbing, electrical wiring, sheetrock finishing, tiling, etc., which are needed if houses are going to become habitable once again. Additionally, we participate in activities that benefit the neighborhood as a whole, such as lot clearing, an annual blight survey, and assessing city services. On top of that we enhance food security in the area through our food pantry.
