Meals on Wheels is proud to launch Safe Homes for Seniors!
This is a new, grant-funded program we launched to help provide services to keep older adults or individuals with disabilities living safely in their homes. The Safe Homes for Seniors Program will aid those older adults who have little to no connection to the outside world and are at highest risk of losing their ability to age in place. We serve participants living in Multnomah, Washington and Clark County.
Special care will be taken to involve individuals with disabilities, are low income and/or live in rural areas. We aim to match volunteers and older adults with similar interests, primary language and veteran status.
This program supports and assists with various projects including:
- Home Repairs
- Yard Maintenance
- Safety Improvements
These may include: yard clean up, changing light bulbs, repairing handrails, simple installations and more. Folks with a truck or SUV are encouraged to volunteer as this can help for certain projects but not required. Evening and weekend opportunities are available! This is also a great opportunity for groups!

The vision of Meals on Wheels People is that no senior will go hungry or experience social isolation. We enrich the lives of seniors and assist them in maintaining their independence by making nutritious food, social contacts and other resources easily available. Our organization is community based, emphasizes volunteer involvement and is financially sound.
Description
Meals on Wheels People is a nonprofit, secular organization that has provided seniors with hot meals and opportunities for health, hope and friendship since 1970. Each year more than 7,500 volunteers prepare and deliver 1.3 million meals to seniors in the Portland-Vancouver metro area. The loyal support of our volunteers combined with the generous financial contributions of our donors keeps the vision of Meals on Wheels Centers alive.
