Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor (HFHGB) Critical Home Repair program helps local residents in need of basic repair, but who can not to afford existing rates. Individuals of all skill levels are needed, from skilled laborer to unskilled people willing to try and learn.
How it works...
Local residents apply for service, providing proof of need, inability to pay and a willingness to contribute sweat equity. Approved applicants will receive the assistance needed at a discounted rate. HFHGB will provide the tools and material and volunteers and contractors will perform the work, allowing the homeowner to remain in their home and feel safe and secure.
Three basic types of repairs will be performed.
- Weatherization - Ensuring a safe, comfortable home that can withstand the harsh Maine winters.
- Aging in Place - Allowing older residents to remain in their home longer by installing handrails, grab bars, wheelchair ramps, etc.
- Critical Repair - Necessary work needed to sustain the longevity of the home and make it safe for the a occupants.

Originally founded in 1988, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor (HFHGB) is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. There are over 1,600 local Habitat affiliates worldwide. The Habitat vision seeks to build strength, Stability and self-reliance through shelter.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor serves the following communities:
Bangor, Bradford, Bradley, Brewer, Carmel, Dedham, Eddington, Glenburn, Hermon, Holden, Hampden, Hudson, Kenduskeag, Levant, Milford, Newburg, Old Town, Orono, Orrington, Penobscot Nation, and Veazie and Winterport.
