The Executive Assistant will help RMA accomplish its important mission by providing administrative support and informed project management. She/he will track assignments and deadlines and support regular Board meetings. She/he will help RMA leadership stay organized, so our activities are timely and our finances and data are in order. She/he can be RMA’s outreach person for selected important contacts, thus building relationships among RMA’s network of allies and friends in the private sector, government, and nonprofits.

Tasks

We can tailor the tasks based on candidate experience and interest:

  • Manage calendar of projects, tasks and deadlines and follow-up as needed
  • Schedule and circulate materials for monthly Board meetings and attend virtually or in person and take brief minutes
  • Undertake some correspondence and organize external meetings
  • Provide support on donor engagement by coordinating year-end fundraising drive and assisting with RMA events
  • Maintain the organization’s contact database
  • Research grants and assist with applications & reports
  • Assist with project accounting compatible with IRS and grantors
  • Represent RMA with some external stakeholders and donors

Requirements

  • Efficient and able to partner with visionary leader to concretize ideas into action
  • Experience in non-profit administrative support
  • Good at meeting summaries, spreadsheets, follow-up
  • Able to work independently and consistently
  • Clear writer and communicator
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor

Preferred

  • Professional experience and/or a degree in any of these fields: urban forestry, landscape architecture, green engineering, historic preservation
  • Track record managing grants and finance for small non-profits
  • Skilled with digital engagement including social media, content for the web and e-newsletters (e.g. Mailchimp)

Expected Time Commitment

Four-hours per week, including monthly board meetings from 5:30-6:45pm.

Location

The Executive Assistant must live and/or work in the DC Metro area near Dupont Circle/Embassy Row/Mass Ave Heights. The individual should be easily able to visit Mass Ave to be familiar trees, with embassy and US clients, and meet at RMA headquarters.

Mission Statement

Restore Mass Ave works to re-grow the canopy of major trees that made the part of Massachusetts Avenue, NW, now known as Embassy Row, a world attraction a century ago. We arrange for the planting of new trees, replacement of dying trees, and care for all new and vulnerable trees. We promote the restoration of historic landscape. "Re-greening" one of America's last Grand Avenues, reduces pollution of water and air, and brings energy efficiency to the historic Beaux Arts mansions, which include international missions, on this national landmark. We aspire to be a model community effort for urban forest renewal in historic cultural landscapes.

Description

Community tree planting, tree watering and care, partnering with city forestry, transportation and historic preservation agencies, international outreach to embassies of Africa, Asia and Europe. Promoting energy efficiency by old growth forest preservation. Promoting historic architecture and landscape. E newsletter, events planning, speaking and testimony on urban forest policy. Many fun group activities.
