ABOUT CAMP CASCO

Camp Casco builds community for childhood cancer patients, survivors, and families in New England through amazing camp experiences. We create a space for kids to reclaim their childhood- to laugh and play. All of our campers have been affected by childhood cancer, and this unifying environment is liberating. At camp, cancer instantly becomes the least remarkable thing about you - a welcome relief for those who have felt defined by this label in everyday life.

Research shows that summer camps for children with cancer reduce disease-related anxiety, improve self-image, increase independence, build social skills, and ultimately improve psychosocial outcomes. We provide these benefits to New England kids free-of-cost, giving patients, survivors, and siblings the chance to make lasting memories and build lifelong friendships.

ABOUT OUR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS COMMITTEE

We’re growing our Young Professionals Committee: a small group of motivated life scientists who want to make a difference in the cancer community.

By helping us organize fundraising events and raise awareness in the community, you’ll help us expand our existing programs and add new support services for childhood cancer survivors and families.

This is an especially good fit for those in the life sciences industry, as the immediate impact of our programs on kids affected by cancer can help motivate and inspire your important work. Join us to help fuel our growth, expand our reach, and support more families after childhood cancer than ever before.

Perfect for: Boston-area life science professionals ages 21-40.

STRONG CANDIDATES WILL BE:
  • Between the ages of 21 and 40
  • Students or professionals in the life sciences
  • Able to regularly attend in-person events in the Boston area
  • Driven to get things done and create meaningful change
  • Excited to be part of a team with other like-minded young professionals
  • Able to commit 3-5 hours per week virtually over the next year
  • Interested in engaging and growing your network to improve the lives of childhood cancer patients and survivors

MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Camp Casco started in 2014 with a small group of young biomedical scientists working together to raise funds and plan a single week-long Overnight Camp for childhood cancer survivors. The direct impact of the program we created on kids affected by cancer was incredibly inspiring, and reminded us why our work in the lab was so essential.

Since then, we’ve expanded to offer three annual camp sessions, year-round family events, and a holiday assistance program for families in need, and we’ve grown to serve an average of 30% more families annually- even through the pandemic. And all of this was made possible from the hard work and dedication of a few motivated volunteers who wanted to make a difference outside of the lab.

Now, we’re ready to do even more, and we hope you’ll join us to help make an even greater impact on the childhood cancer community.
