About Second Harvest Food Bank
Looking for mission-driven work? Based in Silicon Valley, Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties is one of the largest food banks in the nation. Currently providing food to approximately Four Hundred Fifty Thousand people every month, Second Harvest is a trusted community-based organization that was founded in 1974. Despite the immense wealth in Silicon Valley, and partly due to the high cost of living, hunger and malnutrition are pervasive. The Food Bank distributes nutritious food, including more fresh produce than any other food bank in the country, through a network of nearly 320 nonprofit partners at more than 850 sites. Second Harvest is pursuing innovative efforts to increase access to food resources as it seeks to feed an additional 100,000 hungry people each month. To reach more people, it advocates for anti-hunger policies and connects those in need to federal nutrition programs and other food resources. Development Administrative Volunteer Position:
Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is looking for outgoing and energetic volunteers to help with our stewardship program. This is an opportunity to thank our supporters, over the phone, and share the impact of their giving. Calls will be made from our Cypress offices and all materials will be provided. Hours are flexible and remote opportunities are available as well.
This volunteer opportunity might be for you if:
- Is available 2 - 3 hours per week and looking for a long-term volunteer opportunity.
- Enjoys talking with others.
- Is enthusiastic about feeding our community
Volunteer duties include:
- Calling donors to thank them for their support (these are NOT solicitation calls and scripts are provided).
- Tracking call outcomes in a spreadsheet.
- Forwarding any donor questions to Second Harvest staff
Flexible schedule. The volunteer would ideally be available at least 2-3 hours per week. 3-4 hour shift during working hours 9am-4pm

Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is a private non-profit organization that collects and distributes more than 12 million pounds of food each month. We currently serve an average of over 500,000 individuals each month; 60% are low income families and 20% are seniors. By building collaborative networks, we efficiently distribute food by leveraging donations of money, food and human resources. But we cannot do it alone.
