Horizons at SFFS is recruiting 16 dynamic, community-minded professionals to join our inaugural 9th grade volunteer mentorship program. Each mentor will be matched with one 9th grade student and meet them once every other week, in person or virtually. Mentors are trusted adults who offer guidance and support to students as they transition into their first year of high school; they encourage students to set academic and personal goals for themselves. Typical sessions might include:

  • Preparing a study plan for upcoming tests and assignments
  • Going ice skating or bowling to celebrate the end of the semester
  • Attending a Horizons at SFFS event together and participating in activities alongside other mentor-student pairs

This is a volunteer position; each mentor will receive one $250 stipend to offset the cost of doing activities with their students, transportation, etc.

Mission Statement

San Francisco Friends School educates girls and boys in the tradition of Quaker learning. By example and commitment, we hope to inspire all connected with our school to work together toward a peaceful and caring society.

Description

We are a K-8, co-educational, independent school that combines academic excellence with Quaker values of simplicity, integrity, mutual respect, service to others, and peaceful problem-solving. Established in 2002 as the only Friends school in the Bay Area, SFFS is further set apart by our first-rate academic program and by our particular mission to help children learn community service and become socially conscious and active citizens. The SFFS landscape is composed of families from every walk of life. Over one-quarter of our families receive tuition assitance and we are committed to supporting students of different means through our robust scholarship program.
