The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTC) of TARCOG, is actively recruiting volunteers for our Pen Pal Program. We are planning to pair residents of long-term care facilities, here in our community with a volunteer who will write to them on a regular basis.
There’s something very authentic and personal about a hand-written note or letter. It not only makes residents feel special, but it will provide a connection to someone outside of their day-to-day environment. It lets the resident know that someone is thinking of them and provides another outlet for socialization for both parties.
A volunteer would be partnered with one or two residents from a facility and communicate with them either over the phone, by letter, and or email.
Training is required for all our volunteer opportunities. We are mindful of the pandemic and seek to offer training in the safest way possible.
We are currently only recruiting for the five county areas we serve in the state of Alabama, (Madison, Limestone, Jackson, Dekalb and Marshall Counties)
