A New Leaf is looking for dedicated volunteers who can help us maximize our impact by building and strengthening our volunteer culture, which always puts our clients first.
Requirements:
- Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Be able to pass background checks
- Paralegal or other comparable legal training with associated legal knowledge
- Experience in verifying the validity of Subpoenas and medical record requests
- Knowledge of the laws relating to the release of medical records
- Must have high level skills in areas of research and attention to detail
- Comfortable with computers and general software applications
What to expect? (Paralegal or other comparable training/knowledge preferred)
o Review Release of Information requests, Subpoenas and any other requests for medical records for accuracy (legal) and to ensure HIPAA requirements are followed.
o Review documentation in client charts per records requests to ensure there are no legal conflicts
o Approve or deny requests:
- Send approved requests to the appropriate program staff for fulfillment
- Liaise with requestor if request is denied.
o Complete Affidavits & obtain notarization
o Electronically enter/track/monitor all records requests and fulfillment dates
o Retrieve requested records from the Electronic Medical Records (Nextgen) when required
o Liaise with requestor as needed
