Quick Overview: Friends of Hancock Park School is looking for learned leader to volunteer as a Master Gardener or Horticulturist to guide their team of parent volunteers as they rehabilitate, care for, and maintain the school gardens.

Mission: The Friends of Hancock Park School, of which all Hancock Park Elementary School Families are a member, conducts fundraising activities with the hope that we can raise enough money to enrich all our children’s educational and social experience at Hancock Park Elementary School.
Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assist with landscape maintenance, restoration, and design
- Develop a plan and guide for the replanting process
- Help edit the native plant garden and lead the replanting process
- Develop training guides on how to care for the plants for volunteers
- Create a plan for sustainable, climate responsive, and water-wise garden practices
- Identify and treat potential pests or diseases
- Provide training and plant care advice to the other volunteers
- Recommend new planting designs or layouts based on garden needs, available space, sunlight requirements, and other considerations
Requirements:
- Must be available on Sundays, on-site
- Bachelor's degree in horticulture or a related field (or associate degree and equivalent experience)
- Certification through the ASHS a plus
- Experience in landscaping or working with various types of plants, specifically native plants and pollinators
- Comfortable working outside in various weather conditions
- Eye for detail
- 3-6 months, Sundays, and on-site
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, kneel, and work comfortably in an outdoor setting.
Age Requirement: This opportunity is for aged 55 and older volunteers.
