Yes! Then, be a Community Action Services Volunteer for the Kendall County Health Department!
Volunteering for the health department makes a real difference. Your service enables Community Action Services to fulfill its mission to encourage self-sufficiency while recognizing the need for personalized, direct services for residents facing poverty or crisis.
Volunteers serve by:
- Communicating by phone and in person, including excellent diction and a helpful and pleasant attitude
- Respecting privacy and confidentiality of client interviews, information, and files.
- Working under pressure and with interruptions, being flexible, and working with limited supervision
- Performing simple mathematical functions with accuracy.
- Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Understanding of the importance of cultural sensitivity with both staff and clients.
- Proficient in a Windows operating system, including its software (Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, etc.) and the use of various software programs.
- Enter the data for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program (IHWAP), and Community Services Block Grant (CSBG).
- Maintaining a cross-referencing system with outreach workers and applicants that guarantee applicants with incomplete applications are aware of the documentation needed to complete the applications and the timeline for submission.
- Reporting community feedback on the program needs to supervisor aiding in the development of programs.
- Publicity assistance with written distributions or other efforts
- Willing to be assigned projects by Community Action Services Director.
An ideal volunteer will pass the required department background check and be physically able to sit at a desk, answer phones, use a computer, assist clients with forms/other paperwork, and use a copy machine. It may be needed to lift heavy objects that weigh 50 lbs. Education work in human services and being bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
The working environment for this volunteer opportunity will be Kendall County Health Department offices in Morris, Illinois, and Yorkville, Illinois. A volunteer performs their service within a professional, non-smoking environment.
Volunteers may be required to work in areas outside of an office (such as conference and board rooms) or using an employee's office.
