Just a few hours a week spent driving children to family visits can help a child leave foster care sooner to reunify with family or attain a permanent placement through guardianship or adoption. Children living in foster care miss their families. Regular family visits reinforce trust and attachment, and can provide comfort. Without regular family contact, children can feel a sense of hopelessness that can impact their physical and mental health.

Volunteer Drivers transport children in foster care (sometimes a parent or relative) to/ from family visits, case planned activities, or other appointments.

Volunteer Drivers provide a comfortable atmosphere and a safe ride. Rides may be ongoing or one-time only. Rides are in town or from outlying rural areas into Eugene and surrounding area.

Volunteer Drivers are eligible to receive reimbursement for mileage and meals for longer trips out of the driver's home area.

Application Process:
1. Fully complete the online application at www.oregon.gov/dhs/providers-partners/volunteer
2. Indicate you are interested in LANE COUNTY.
3. Once we receive your application, we will contact you to share more about the opportunity.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with ODHS!
