Volunteers are ordinary people with extraordinary hearts.

When our kiddos come out for their therapeutic horseback riding session, each student requires a therapist and 1-3 additional support staff depending on the severity of their disabilities. We recruit people that have the time and the interest in learning about horses and our students so they can assist with 1-2 classes per week and aide in the growth and development of our riders!

When you come out to assist with a session you may act in the role of a:

Horse Leader- a trained individual aiding in the lesson to help manage the horse during a therapeutic riding lesson. Some riders do not have the ability to ask their horse to walk or stop and YOU make it possible for them to ride a horse!

Side Walker- a trained individual aiding in the lesson as a support person for the rider! Depending on the riders abilities, you may be there to provide physical support while a kiddo is riding or you may just be needed to walk along aside them as a buddy in case they need an extra hand.

Horse experience is a not a requirement but the time and willingness to learn is! We will provide you with all the training you need before placing you into a class. Volunteer opportunities are available Monday-Saturday!

Mission Statement

At The H.E.A.R.T. Center, we strive to enhance the quality of life of each person served by providing individualized recreational therapy services that bridge the gap between clinical services and a meaningful life outside the home.

Description

The H.E.A.R.T. Center was founded in 2014 with one horse, one recreational therapist and a whole lot of love to give. Our primary service has been Therapeutic Horseback Riding for kiddos with special needs but we have expanded into a one of a kind micro school for kids with special needs to utilize the horses as a catalyst to their learning. Our multi-sensory recreation approach to learning allows our clients a multitude of opportunities for growth and learning.

Through the work we do with our students and our families, our ultimate goal is to create a positive community where people feel valued regardless of their abilities, and they have a space where they feel at peace and can grow into the amazing humans they are. We aim to remain a smaller program to hold onto the integrity and value of truly individualized programming.

Currently we are welcoming volunteers to help us grow into all of the greatness that our new property has to offer. We have volunteer opportunities for working with the horses, working inside our classrooms with the students and assisting with property projects like gardening!
