We are specifically looking for more volunteer support in the following areas:

A Nonprofit Tax Expert that specializes in prepping and filing 990 IRS forms

Volunteer Board that will be hands on with fundraising and advocating through networking

Grant Writing - someone to proof and expand our proposals

Having someone complete grant applications on behalf of the organization

Grant researcher who is an expert on capacity building grants and will help us find more opportunities

Assistance with volunteer management

We could use a Director of Programs, and a Chief of Operations

Website Developer that is an expert on WordPress

A Content Developer to assist with messaging and branding for social media and the website

A Social Media Manager who is familiar with all platforms

Lots of people have suggestions and recommendations about what we should do to revamp the organization, but what is really needed are more consultants that will be hands on with helping us to bring projects into fruition and do some of the legwork required to help us move forward and improve functionality and effectiveness. We are having a difficult time finding those dedicated individuals.

Jasen Brown has purchased 7 new locations and is currently in the process of building out those spaces to accommodate the 800 teens that have participated in his programs in the past. All nonprofit organizations were affected in some ways by the pandemic and for us, it required the organization to take a hiatus. We are, however, slowly rebuilding relationships and providing programming for kids on a virtual level.

We have heavily relied on VolunteerMatch and Taproot volunteers to provide guidance and assistance with projects. But because so many people on these platforms are looking for work, it has been difficult to maintain long-term relationships with people who write in to provide assistance. We want people who will stay and be dedicated to our mission and the kids.

The barrier to solving this challenge is that we don’t have a lot of time to do handholding for people. We need volunteers who are willing to take the reigns on projects and have experience with organizational turnaround, not people who are experimenting or learning on the job - making mistakes that push us further back from our deadlines. People have left in the past because they wanted to sit for hours and bond with our staff, and we do love our volunteers, but people must understand that relationships are developed over time and although there isn’t a lot of time available to hang out and we have to make every effort to direct our conversations towards making progress with projects, it isn’t meant to be taken personally and we don’t want them to feel as if we don’t appreciate their contributions.

We would like to leave the marathon with having either established relationships to fill the aforementioned positions or have a strong leads list created of places that we can reach out to for support and secure experts who will have longevity.
