The Emergency Winter Shelter operates two buildings (one for men and one for women) from November to March to provide care for those experiencing homelessness in our community during the coldest months of the year. These are the only no-barrier Emergency Winter Shelters in Sedgwick County and typically serve between 100-120 homeless men and women each night.

Volunteers prepare and serve meals for clients at our EWS. Please come prepared with enough food for 100 individuals to be served for dinner, as well as breakfast that can be left in the fridge to be served in the morning. All shelter volunteers must be over the age of 16. No more than 8 people can work in our kitchen at a time.

HK asks that meals are prepared off site (ie. your home).

Description

In 1885, local church leaders banded together as the Wichita Ministerial alliance to help those in need in our community. In the 1970’s, we partnered with other faith organizations and renamed as Inter-Faith Ministries of Wichita. Now, more than 135 years later, we continue the same spirit as HumanKind Ministries - embracing communities of all kinds in our work to help those living in poverty and the homeless.
