We are looking for people to support our counselors and help them prep supplies that they take on Street Outreach. We also need help with other smaller organizational tasks around the office like organizing our Clothing Room, restocking the Prep Room, and making sure our storage rooms are well maintained. Some of the more common tasks are:

  • Making candy packs that we hand out on outreach
  • Making Hygiene packs
  • Sorting through donated clothing items
  • Helping keep storage rooms cleaned and organized
  • Making food boxes to hand out to clients

We are looking for volunteers to come into our office in downtown San Francisco in the mornings (around 10am - 12pm), during the early afternoons (around 12pm - 3pm) or late afternoon (3pm - 5pm) Monday through Friday. We understand that with hybrid work schedules people might not be able to commit to a weekly volunteer slot, so we are happy to arrange something on a bi-monthly basis. And if those times do not work for you, please let us know! We are flexible and are happy to have a conversation to try to find something that works for us both.

We are asking for a six month minimum commitment and to come in at least once a week for two to three hours.

I know Covid is not over, so I understand if you do not feel comfortable. You would be asked to wear a mask for the time being and we would check your vaccination status. All of our staff members are fully vaccinated and boosted.

If you are interested please email me at jaegers@atthecrossroads.org

About AT THE CROSSROADS

Location:

167 Jessie St., SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94105, US

Mission Statement

At The Crossroads reaches out to homeless youth and young adults at their point of need, and works with them to build healthy and fulfilling lives. By bringing our services directly onto the streets, we cultivate long-term, unconditional relationships with young people who would otherwise be disconnected from consistent support. We empower our clients to accomplish their individual goals, build community, pursue their passions, and find their own paths to happiness and stability. We believe that there are no limits to what our clients can achieve, and that everyone deserves the chance to build an outstanding life.

Description

In 1997, ATC was founded by Rob Gitin and Taj Mustapha after they received an Echoing Green Fellowship to start a program for underserved homeless youth. They designed ATC’s nighttime outreach program to serve these disconnected young people and bring support directly to them, without lots of paperwork and long wait times. In May 2018 Charles Lerner joined our team as our new Executive Director. Under Charles’ leadership, ATC published its first-ever ad campaign, completed a strategic planning process that resulted in three strategic directions for 2020-2023, and launched a project to create a theory of change model that will guide our work moving forward. After 24 years, meeting youth where they are at and providing them with unconditional support still remains the foundation of At The Crossroads’ work. To this day, we have never kicked a single client out of our program.

Based on over two decades of experience, we know that building long-term caring relationships with the most disconnected young people on the streets results in the following outputs:

  • Increased trust and comfort in ATC’s counselors over time.
  • Increased access to food and essential supplies that help clients think beyond survival mode.
  • Increased achievement of individual goals related to housing, mental and physical health needs, and school or employment.
