ATC hosts Volunteer Prep Nights, every second and fourth Wednesday of the month, from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM and we’re inviting our wonderful community members like yourself to help keep ATC running at full steam!

Community Volunteer Prep Nights play a vital role in ensuring our counselors have everything they need to fully support our clients and to go on outreach. We are looking for volunteers who can commit 2 hours to help At The Crossroads with various prep activities including:

Making candy packs that we hand out on outreach.

Making Hygiene packs that we hand out on outreach.

Sorting through and folding donated clothing items.

Helping keep storage rooms cleaned and organized.

Most importantly, Prep Nights serves as a fun way to connect with others in your community. We have light snacks and play some music, and you get to meet and hang out with other like-minded people in San Francisco and rotating staff members in a relaxed environment!

About AT THE CROSSROADS

Location:

167 Jessie St., SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94105, US

Mission Statement

At The Crossroads reaches out to homeless youth and young adults at their point of need, and works with them to build healthy and fulfilling lives. By bringing our services directly onto the streets, we cultivate long-term, unconditional relationships with young people who would otherwise be disconnected from consistent support. We empower our clients to accomplish their individual goals, build community, pursue their passions, and find their own paths to happiness and stability. We believe that there are no limits to what our clients can achieve, and that everyone deserves the chance to build an outstanding life.

Description

In 1997, ATC was founded by Rob Gitin and Taj Mustapha after they received an Echoing Green Fellowship to start a program for underserved homeless youth. They designed ATC’s nighttime outreach program to serve these disconnected young people and bring support directly to them, without lots of paperwork and long wait times. In May 2018 Charles Lerner joined our team as our new Executive Director. Under Charles’ leadership, ATC published its first-ever ad campaign, completed a strategic planning process that resulted in three strategic directions for 2020-2023, and launched a project to create a theory of change model that will guide our work moving forward. After 24 years, meeting youth where they are at and providing them with unconditional support still remains the foundation of At The Crossroads’ work. To this day, we have never kicked a single client out of our program.

Based on over two decades of experience, we know that building long-term caring relationships with the most disconnected young people on the streets results in the following outputs:

  • Increased trust and comfort in ATC’s counselors over time.
  • Increased access to food and essential supplies that help clients think beyond survival mode.
  • Increased achievement of individual goals related to housing, mental and physical health needs, and school or employment.
