ORGANIZATION: Development Alert

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Kisia Village in Mwenge-Paya Sub County located in West Budama North Constituency Tororo District is one of the rural and isolated areas with very low safe water supply coverage of less than 40% (Directorate of Water Development, Ministry of Water & Environment, Republic of Uganda, 2018).

Tororo district local government water engineering department report 2016- 2017 that indicated that 80% of the population fetch water from unprotected swamps, springs, ponds, rivers and traditional hand dug wells and as such exposing them to various water associated diseases that have for long affected the health and livelihoods of communities in the district.

According to the Uganda’s Ministry of Water and Environment ( as of 2021, almost 13,000 people lack access to clean and safe water in Paya Sub County. This is compounded by water logging and flooding that has often resulted into contamination of available open water sources, leading to rampant outbreak of waterborne diseases during rainy seasons that negatively affected the lives of people in the area. During dry seasons the area quickly dries up causing lack of water and as a result, making Women and Girls to walk very long distances in search for clean and safe water; carrying heavy water containers which are harmful to their lives and worsening their vulnerability in the community.

Please help us bring Closer Clean and Safe Water Source for the Women and Girls in our community, Reduce cases of water borne diseases, Reduce distances covered by women and girls while collecting water, Reduce Health related risks associated with carrying heavy water containers for long distances, Improve on sanitation and hygiene and; Improve school attendance by the girl child since they will not have to travel very long distances to collect water that always makes them to either reach late at school or drop out due to low concentration as they help their mothers and their whole households.

The project is to drill one Borehole to provide a Clean and Safe water source and form and train 100 members of the community as water user committee to serve Mwenge primary school communities, and the villages of Kagulu, Nyanjati and Kisia that do not have access to a stable clean water source. Use of Funds -The project will drill One (1) Hand pump Borehole USD 8000
-Train 100 community members and;
-Establish water user committee to manage the Borehole and promote hygiene and sanitation in the four villages
